Teach your bird to wave

Teaching your pet bird tricks can be a fun way for both you and your bird to bond with each other, especially if you only own a bird or two. If your pet bird does not seem to be understanding what you’re asking of it, don’t resort to anger. Try another trick or give it a break, but do not become cruel to your pet bird.

Getting Started:
Begin by taking your bird out of its cage and placing it on a safe roost (and make sure healthy bird treats are nearby too). Now you have a few second where the bird is focused entirely on you. Always be patient with your pet bird and when they seem to be getting a bit bored, it’s probably about time to stop the lesson for a while.

Teaching your Pet Bird to Wave:
The ‘Wave’ is one of the easiest tricks to teach a bird and is a good ‘first trick’. The only thing your bird should know how to do is to step up onto your finger beginning with one foot.

With your bird on its perch, put your finger near its feet and say ‘Wave’. The bird should lift up one of his feet to take a step onto your finger, but you’re going to be moving your finger away (in slow motion) so that he now has his foot held up in the air—if only for a second. Shower your bird with praises and a treat before he forgets what amazing feat he just completed, then try again (if he’s still interested). The moment the little bird’s mind starts to wander, the lesson should be over.

Your pet bird could master the trick in just a few lessons, or he might take his time in learning it. Just don’t get frustrated and have fun. Patience is super important and practice makes perfect.

Hi everybody! I’ve always been fascinated with the amazing creatures we share the earth with and I’m hoping to share how stunning these animals can be when we slow down to enjoy them!
